Tiffany King

In the book Red Hill by Jamie McGuire, she talks about the struggles and tragedies that come along with the zombie apocalypse. The book bounces back and forth to the viewpoints of different characters, who all could very well be heroes but really, they’re all just trying to save their self and their loved ones from the people they would have considered friends.

Scarlet: Scarlet in the book is the first character we are introduced to. She works at a hospital and her two girls are her life. There is something wrong that is going on and the hospital is over flowing with people with this type of disease. Scarlet thinks about her girls and does her best to leave, she has to get to them. The phone lines are down and Scarlet begins to panic. Knowing that the girls are with their father going to an event that he wanted to take them to, she begins to wonder even more if they are okay. On her rush to her girls she realizes that the gates into town are blocked by men with guns, she comes to think that they aren’t even trained that they are just scared men with guns. On her “adventure” she meets a man in the same situation she is in. He wants to get to his sister and his nephew. Together they come up with a plan to sneak into this town, they are successful and the town seems dead, nobody in sight and this only makes it more stressful for scarlet. She goes to Andrews’s house and writes a note to him and the girls to meet her at the red hill. Scarlet soon comes to realize that it’s happening, it’s the end of the world.

Andrew: Andrew is a father who is almost in the same situation as Scarlet. He is a father and his daughter is his world. Although Andrew and his wife are still together (he thinks), he feels like a single father. We learn about the back story between Andrew and his wife, she isn’t the mother type. She stays home all day and sits on her computer all day, she doesn’t pay attention to Andrew or Zoe, their daughter. As Andrew is waiting for his daughter to be released from school he notices all of the moms rushing in to grab their kids and get out of there. He’s listening to the radio and he knows something isn’t right. He runs in and pulls Zoe out of class. On their way back home he tries to keep zoe calm and try to explain it to her in a way that won

Skeeter and Jill: skeeter is Andrews’s brother in law, somehow some way, they all end up in the same place. After skeeter’s wife Jill passes away, he is alone and fighting zombies on his own. He finds this house and stays there for safety. When Scarlet and her crew need a place to stay for the night they stumble upon skeeter. Skeeter is so happy to hear that scarlet and her friends know Andrew and Zoe, they take him back to his family and realize that they all have seen each other at least once. Or have been in the same place and have met the same people.

Miranda and Ashley: These girls are the ones that hold my heart throughout the entire book. They have been through so much already and when they finally reach their safety place and are waiting for their dad to come out and hug them, protect them and be what their father should be, they realize that he’s dead. They find their ways to coping with the death of their father and the loss of their mother as well but what makes things worse is that Ashley’s boyfriend Cooper is there with her and not only does she have to deal with the death of her father she has to deal with the fact that the love of her life has died right in front of her. Miranda on the other hand is in a different scenario, her boyfriend Bryce, who she thought she had been in love with for a very long time kind of turns to her enemy when she gains new feelings for the guy that they have rescued, Joey.
