Memoir:
In my opinion, a book should be mostly true if it is based on a true story. I understand that some parts may be exaggerated and i think that's okay as long as the story doesn't change. I don't even think that the scene should change much, you can add as much detail to a story as you want but don't change what actually happened.
I think that "half-truths" are okay as long as you don't claim that the book is a true story. if you're going to make up half of a story then you should just make up the other half too because it's just not the same.
I don't see the point in having a line between generes. Most authors feel that their books are something different than the genres readers choose them for anyways. personally i read nicholas sparks books because i am a hopeless romantic and i love reading about the love stories he comes up with. He doesn't believe that his books should be labeled as romance books but it doesn't stop me from reading them as romantics. i think that if someone chooses a book to read it's because they like the idea of the concept, i feel like most people don't just look for certain genres otherwise they wouldn't have any difference in what they are reading and to me that just takes the purpose away.
